Gardeners' Association News

GardenersWe have enjoyed two garden visits so far this year. Unfortunately  I had to miss the first one to Kia-Ora Farm and Gardens as I was  away on holiday but I gather everyone had a good time, despite a rather wet evening, and enjoyed a lovely cream tea!

Last week we visited the Walled Gardens of Cannington, near Bridgwater. The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed a very informative guided tour around the gardens, which were opened by Prince Edward earlier this year. We were also shown around very overgrown areas of the garden, which are about to be "reclaimed". It will be interesting to return, say, in a couple of years time to see the results! We finished the afternoon with a most welcome cup of tea and cake before visiting their small garden centre. I think most members left with something new for their garden!

We have two more visits left, one on the 5th August to Suttons Trial Grounds and then on 12th August we go to Burrow Farm Gardens at Dalwood - let's hope the sunny
weather returns for us to make these trips. If you need any more information on any of these visits please give me a ring.

A reminder for your diary that the Autumn Show is in the Parish Hall on 5 September at 2.30 p.m. - members should have received their schedules by now and should be busily sorting out their entries!! In the Floral Art Section Class 63 is open to Non-Members - the subject is Battle of Britain - an arrangement of fresh flowers and foliage, space 60cms x 60cms, height unlimited with accessories allowed. There will also be an exhibition of children's work from the joint Hemyock Baptist Church/St Mary's Holiday Club held in August. Their theme is "The Jungle".

On the 9th September we will resume our monthly meetings in the Parish Hall and our speaker will be Mrs Vyse and her subject is "A Year in the Garden". We look forward to seeing all "old" and "new" members then!

I hope you all enjoy a lovely summer.
