The Hemyock Cricket Village Cup

Cricket ClubThe Hemyock Village Cup was played on Sunday.

The first ever Hemyock Village Cup was held at the Recreation Ground on Sunday 30th August. There were three teams on the day:

The Dolphins - sponsored by Dobles Garage and captained by Nick Allen

The Homers - sponsored by Summerfield Homes and captained by Steve Jennings

The Pumas - sponsored by Hemyock Post Office and captained by John Hurley

All teams played each other once and points were awarded on runs scored and wickets taken. The team with most points after their two games would be eventual winners on the day.

In the first game the Pumas beat the Dolphins. Game 2 saw the Homers then beat the Pumas to set up a grand finale against the Dolphins. In that final game the Homers were successful again, but only after a close finish with the Dolphins chasing a massive 146 in their 12 overs and falling just four runs short.

The Homers therefore picked up the Hemyock Village Cup, sponsored by club chairman John Matthews. The winning team was Steve Jennings, Andy Perrott, Dean Stone, Nigel Cridge, Josh Jordan, Steve Major, Alex Clist and Phil Bell.

The games were played in good spirit and this will hopefully become an annual event with more teams entering in 2010.

Thanks to all the players who turned out with special thanks to Sarah Jennings and Nicky Allen for doing the BBQ and serving drinks, Nigel Cridge for supplying the meat and Tim Slator for umpiring and ignoring the heaps of abuse for his wide calls.
