Over 60 chaps gathered at the Catherine Wheel pub in Hemyock for breakfast last Saturday (12th) to hear Carl Beech, who leads Christian Vision for Men the fast growing national movement, of which Hemyock Men is a member. Carl told the group that CVM is a catalyst for an emerging band of brothers across the UK who want to see the nation won for Jesus Christ, and getting them gripped and excited by their faith and equipped to live an adventure.
Telling his own story with humour and openness Essex born Carl, whose father was a no nonsense Flying Squad detective, shared about the clear signposts which led to faith when he was a teenager. Originally he had a burning ambition to join the armed forces, but he distinctly heard God call him to fight a different sort of battle. After studying for a degree in engineering he worked as a church planter on a deprived and run down council estate, "which was both exciting and very scary" and then went on to became senior pastor of a large multi-congregational church, before heading up CVM.
Julian Garner attending the group for the first time said “It was a very inspiring and grounded talk”. Echoing the thoughts of others, Bob Anderson said "this man really held my attention". The men responded well to the call to support CVM's ongoing initiatives by giving a gift of over £320 to the organisation.
A regular conference speaker around the UK, Carl (38) is known for his clear sighted, passionate and direct approach. He is currently involved in pioneering some groundbreaking evangelistic projects involving media and the web. He is the author of three books Spadework, Groundbreaker and Real men, Real God, Real Spirit.
