I am having to write this report a little early as I am off to "supervise" the grandchildren!! The weather today is fabulous, a welcome sight of blue sky and sun after the horrendous gales and rain of the past few days.

Our Annual General Meeting was well supported with Paul Featherstone taking the Chair as Tim Hannaford was recovering from his knee op. We wish him a speedy recovery. The business of the evening was quickly dealt with as, fortunately, all Committee Members were willing to continue (everyone in the audience visibly sighing with relief!!).

We were able to report that our team of Jane Atlee, Christine Carver, Sue Scantlebury and Jane Smith were victorious at The Pottinger Cup quiz and I am reliably informed by Jane Atlee that we have now won this 20 times out of 38 attempts so not bad going. The date for the quiz next year is 20th October, and we will be the hosts.

Members were also advised of a couple of events that we propose to hold next year. On 8 May, in the Parish Hall, we will have a Spring Fayre, selling bedding plants etc and we also hope to organise a coach trip to one of the RHS Shows. More details later. We finished the evening with coffee and a quiz, organised by Brenda Calcraft.

The Spring Show next year is on 27 March, 2010 so for those among you who like to be organised and prepared the classes open to non-members are as follows:

Class 46 Photograph - The Beauty of the Blackdowns
Class 47 Painting - Rural Landscape
Class 48 Complete the Limerick - "In 1790 they say, shoelaces first came our way"
Class 49 Handmade Easter Card

Our next meeting is on 9 December when the subject is Orchids. Simon Hugh-Jones and members of Writhlington School will talk about travels in the Himalayas and I understand will also have plants for sale. Some members have heard this talk elsewhere and say it is not to be missed!! We start 2010 with our Social Evening on 13 January and look forward to seeing all members there.
