Primary School News

Primary SchoolIt has been an exciting snowy start to the new term. School was closed for two days, with our children spending a lovely couple of days (in their own time) learning masses of practical scientific stuff especially how the laws of physics relate to sledging down Pencross Hill! The PTFA and staff were out in force on the second of the (s)no(w) school days and cleared the walkways ensuring for a safe opening on the Friday,  when many others including Uffculme remained closed. For the 118 children who braved the snow, they had the treat of enjoying a Space Odyssey in the form of Simon Ould's inflatable planetarium as part of the whole school space project.

12 new children have been welcomed to the school this term, which include 9 teenies in Foundation and 3 older children in other classes. Prior to Christmas the school Choir was out in force singing their heads off at a number of different events and venues, ensuring that everyone got into the yule tide spirit.

Most of the school went off to see Mother Goose in Exeter (oh no they didn't…) and for those who still had some energy, end of term was rounded off by the PTFA organised discos.

Returning to the Spring Term, there has been an innovative start to how the teaching and learning is structured at the school. More on how this works in practice in the next edition, but for now just to let you know that the classes have different names Foundation & KS1 (Infants as we used to know it) is Hemyock 1 and KS2 (Junior) is Hemyock 2. Individual classes are now named after Planets in keeping with the Space theme, but also reflecting a 21st Century approach to education. Exciting times!
