Valley Arts & Social Club News

Valley ArtsValley-Arts have enjoyed an active and successful second year, we finished 2009 with an awards evening and Christmas Dinner. The awards: "The best overall male performance" and "The best overall female performance" were presented to Richard Shepherd and Helen Williams for their portrayal of Buttons and Beauty in the pantomime BEAUTY and the BEAST. In December the group took delivery of new staging funded mainly from a grant from Mid Devon Council. This means that Valley Arts now own more than half of the staging. Anybody wishing to hire any of our staging should email us at valley-arts@live.co.uk

Alice and Philip kindly hosted a DVD evening, where cast members were able to have a pre-Christmas get together and laugh at themselves on the DVD!

January has started well, with Janet Elworthy agreeing to produce our 2010 autumn show. We are delighted about this and are now busy researching possibilities for a production that will suit our group.

Our first social event of the year was a Skittles evening at the Catherine Wheel; this was a well attended and fun evening, Richard Shepherd showed that not only is he a talented actor, but he is an excellent skittler, he rattled the balls down the ally to give him the highest score of the evening! Libby Schillemore produced a very respectable score and was the highest scoring lady. This was no surprise to her boyfriend Stuart Summers who had passed on his expertise (gained when he was a professional teenage sticker - upper) he said he taught Libby all she knows about skittling!!

Forthcoming Events: Our AGM is on Thursday 18th February at 7.45pm in the Cornhill room at the Catherine Wheel Hemyock. We are going to the Octagon Theatre Yeovil on 9th Feb to see "Hot Flush" there are a few spare tickets(£17) if you are interested email valley-arts@live.co.uk
