Hemyock Pre-School News

Pre-SchoolA new committee was elected at the start of term and have already set to work on new fundraising ideas and exciting improvements for Pre-school. Shelley Millar has taken seat as Chairperson and Philippa Thompson remains Treasurer whilst we welcome Emily Durman as Secretary, Lyndsey Knight as Fundraiser, Catherine Meade and Amanda Wallace-Leavey.

Spring Term for the children has brought with it new interesting topics such as; care and concern of others and wildlife, among other things making bird feeders and charts to record what we discover in our garden. Followed with human and animal growth over time and moving our bodies like plants and animals, adventure trails and obstacle courses. Role play themes have included turning home corner into a vet's surgery and the following week a fruit shop to assist learning about weights and measuring. Reading and story sequencing will include a visit to the primary school library. The term will finish with lots of fun Easter activities and craft!

The staff are inviting anyone who would like to bring in anything of interest to show the children, for example chicks or any other Easter/spring related topics? Please contact Lucy Fishwick on the Pre-school number: 07779 859433

Parent's evening is approaching this month and we feel it's a great way to not only give feedback to parents but to listen to parent needs and suggestions. The pre-school are keen to work together and maintain good communication links with parents. Over the next term we will be carrying out research into the service we deliver and the improvements that can be made to meet the requests of current and prospective parents with a goal of offering childcare from the age of 2 and a half, breakfast clubs and after school care.

We have just signed up to a new scheme recycling used inkjet cartridges and mobile phones. You can help us by collecting these items and you'll be doing your bit for the environment and your local children! Please drop any used inkjet cartridges and used mobile phones to Hemyock Pre-school in Parklands and we'll do the rest!

Our upcoming fundraising event is 'Pickle Your Brains!'...intrigued? It's a fun, traditional pub style quiz with cheese, fresh bread, home-made pickles & snacks included in your ticket price of £5.00 per person (maximum of 6 per team). Taking place on Saturday 1st May 2010 at 7:15pm to start the quiz at 7:45pm at Hemyock Parish Hall, a licensed bar will be available. Look out for forthcoming posters with details on where to purchase tickets!

The Chapel Cafe at Hemyock Baptist Church has kindly offered to give the proceeds of the morning of Wednesday 14th April to the Pre-school! Please come along between 9am-11:30am and enjoy tea, coffee, cakes and other tasty refreshments. It's a great place to meet, catch up and for children to play. This date is during the Easter holidays so if you're looking for holiday activities, here's one for you!

As a charity we are always looking for local businesses or people to donate money or prizes for fundraising events to Hemyock Pre-school and like to give thanks to those who do in our newsletters and  articles, please contact us if you are interested.

If you have a child approaching the age of 3 and would like to arrange an informal visit or for more information on joining Hemyock Pre-school please contact Sarah Kenny on 01823 680726. From next term the early years funding entitlement is increasing to 15 hours per week, why not make the most of this free time for your child to learn and play!
