Hello everyone. Some of you may remember me as Rikki (John Northam) from many years ago, in the days of Old Skip! Well, in the wisdom of the current leaders, they have invited me back to be Group Scout Leader. A position that I am proud to take up.

I have already met many of the current leaders and Julie who is in charge of the cubs has kindly agreed that I may write to you all in the Parish Pump to let you know how things are going. Well, from what I have seen so far the Group is flourishing and meets outdoors as often as possible. Baden Powell will still be proud of us!

I am sure some (many) of you know that we are twinned with the Danish Scouts in Tonder, a friendship that has been ongoing since July 1972. It continues and our friends will be visiting us in the summer this year. I will tell you more in the next issue.

Also it takes an old boy like me to remember that scouting in Hemyock restarted after a few years gap in 1960. A teacher at the Primary school by the name of Elizabeth Sutton started a cub pack. Alas she moved on, but she saw Old Skip (he was young then!) in his shorts in Eastlands, he took over and the rest as they say is history. So I think that as that was 50 years ago it would be rather nice to organise a get together for members of the group over that time, perhaps later this year. I will arrange it! So, if any old member is reading this, give me a ring on 01884 254388 or 07889 686738 or email on john.northam@mypostoffice.co.uk and I will keep you informed.

So there we are a little news from the scouts. Look forward to giving you an update in the next Pump. Bye for now.

Rikki.

PS Julie has just asked me to ask you all if you would kindly collect the Tesco vouchers for us which will help provide equipment for the Scouts. Julie's address is 39 Eastlands, Hemyock and her phone number is 680576. Many thanks.
