We are delighted to say that Hemyock Primary School became part of the 'Children First federation' on the 4th May. This means that we are now federated with Wilcombe Primary School in Tiverton and Sampford Peverell C of E Primary School. We have an Executive Head teacher, Mr Gary Chown who oversees all three schools. The individuality of each school will be maintained by having its own Head of Teaching and Learning, whilst still working closely with the partner schools.

A newly elected governing body will serve all three schools and has representation from each. Former Hemyock governors who have now been elected to join the federation governing body are: Hugh Whittaker and Patrick Redwood (parent governors), Richard Evans and Helen Lucas (community governors) and Leanne Arrowsmith (staff governor). As the old governing body specifically for Hemyock School has now become part of the federation, we wish to thank all the former governors for their hard work and dedication in improving the outcomes for children at Hemyock Primary School.

Meanwhile the school has continued to run as normal, welcoming several new pupils to various year groups. As the weather improves and the summer is nearly upon us, numerous activities are eagerly awaited by the children. Teams of year 6 pupils braved the 16 mile Exmoor challenge at the beginning of May and successfully completed the course. The year 6 children will now have completed their SATS tests, as part of this they shared a breakfast together each day, thank you to all the parents, teachers and the PTFA who helped with this and donated food items.

Sporting activities continue with the children competing in Tag rugby matches and cross country events. The variety and frequency of afterschool clubs has increased dramatically to include: tag rugby, chess, ICT, wildlife explorers, fencing, story club, cookery, heart start first aid, tennis, samba band and film club. Thank you to all parents, staff and members of the community for their help in running these clubs.

The year 4 children are looking forward to their 'Tepee' residential at Wimbleball Reservoir and year 3's to the 'Wild Night out' at Killerton House.

The whole school will be going to Cardiff Castle in June and some year 5's will be attending a science day at Blundell's School. Throughout the second part of the summer term the usual sports challenge days are planned as well as a record breaking walking bus.

The PTFA continue working hard fundraising to support events and activities within the school both financially and with hands on help. A race night is planned for the 11th June and the annual Summer Fayre will be on the 9th July.

The Summer Term will end on the 20th July with a leaver's assembly for the year 6 pupils who will be starting Uffculme School in September.
