Over 30 ladies enjoyed a fork supper at Hemyock Baptist Church on Thursday 25th September when Actress & Producer Penelope Moore visited Hemyock Women. Penelope (formerly Lee) delighted and amused those gathered with photos, memories and anecdotes from her career in acting on stage, radio and television. She later moved on to presenting programmes, and it was at this time that she met missionary Jackie Pullinger. She explained how she was touched by the appalling conditions in the Hong Kong slums and the way in which this young, inexperienced girl worked there simply because of the love of God in her heart. Penelope felt her own faith should be put into action, and showed the ladies video clips of her recording of a prison in Brazil. Staffed by Christian volunteers and the prisoners themselves, working very closely with the prisoners' families and in the belief that every person should be known, wanted, needed and loved. As a result families are drawn together and re-offending is virtually unknown. Penelope now works tirelessly to promote this work and to encourage its application in other settings.
