Woolworths may have gone with their "pic & mix" counter, but designer babies are here to stay. Every parent looks forward to the birth of their baby hoping that it will be perfect. Can modern science now remove all the risk in childbirth?

Embryos which have particular genes can be rejected or selected. And it is possible to modify their genetic makeup. We can even make genetic copies of individual humans by cloning them. So, how far should we go? Is this the most important subject of our age? Our Speaker is Professor John Bryant, President, of the Society for Experimental Biology and Lecturer at Exeter University.
