The rain and wind gave way to snow and it was a delight to see the glow on young faces as Hemyock turned white for a few days. For some it was a completely new experience and gave true meaning to all the pictures pre-schoolers had seen in storybooks and on the television.
Whilst the snow may have closed the doors at Pre-school for a day or two, it didn't stop the children eagerly learning about 'experiments'. We take so many things for granted as we get older and it's rewarding to see the astonishment on young faces when they pick up a magnet, or discover what happens when two or more coloured paints are mixed together.
How many things can you make with flour? Pancakes of course during Pancake week but the children also made salt dough shapes and biscuits. On another food theme, they also spent a week learning about healthy eating and the different colours of vegetables and fruits.
During pet theme week, the children made a chicken and some dogs welcome visitors to Pre-school and on Comic Relief Day the parents had a bit of extra time in the morning as pyjamas were the order of the day. It was lovely to see the children having such fun and admiring each other's nightwear.
We are thrilled that our new playground canopy recently passed its planning application and by the time this goes to print, it will have been erected. The children will now have more protection during their outdoor play.
The '100 Club' initiative has been extremely popular in the village and is now being launched. Good luck to everyone who purchased tickets - the first cash prize is being drawn in March. We send our sincere thanks to all our parents who support Pre-school through Easyfundraising. We have just received a further cheque for £19 and look forward to your continued support.
Pre-school will be welcoming Jessica Bettison-Holt and Teagan Leavey when they join us in April. However on a sad note, Jenny Doble stepped down as Playleader in February. Jenny has been the pinnacle of the Pre-school for 23 years and has a very special way with young children. We miss her and send her our very best wishes.
