It hardly seems possible that we are so far into the season but, thankfully, we are enjoying better bowling weather this year. We have had a full programme of  friendly matches against clubs from around the area, which are more for fun  without so much emphasis on the result.

These matches are ideal for the newer players to gain experience in actual games, without feeling any pressure.

This year we held Open Sessions over the late May Bank Holiday weekend and also one evening in June. These attracted more than thirty people to come and have a go and resulted in several new members joining the club.

We were very sad to hear of the sudden death of Ted Collins, a strong and loyal member of the club, early in June. Ted had been secretary and Publicity officer during his membership, and in later years he was well known for his "Welcome Cards", which were greatly appreciated by visiting clubs. He had done a lot of research and was very knowledgeable about the history of the club. He will be sadly missed by many.

Also in July the loss of a club Life Member Les Wannell , who was Honorary Treasurer for many years in the past, and was an enthusiastic club member during his playing years.

For President Helen Lancaster this will be her final year in office and to celebrate she held a garden social afternoon for members at her home. The weather was kind and although the black clouds appeared we only had one shower. It was a very enjoyable afternoon searching for clues in the treasure hunt, playing croquet or taking part in Boules. Also enjoying a meal of lasagne and salads, with bowls of delicious strawberries from the garden to follow.
