Hemyock Primary School

Our School

Hemyock Primary School is a successful school in a thriving village. Hemyock is a local centre serving both a rural and small business community. The school draws the majority of its pupils from Hemyock and Clayhidon.

Built in 1982, the school has excellent facilities. In the spacious grounds there are hard play areas, an adventure trail, a sports field, a wildlife area and a bird box with a camera linked to the school. Our swimming pool is put to full use during the summer term and is open to the wider community after school and during the holidays.

Classrooms share practical areas for 'hands-on' arts and science activities and there is also a small kiln room for firing ceramics. The school has two libraries and a well-equipped computer suite. We have interactive whiteboards in two classrooms and data projectors in a further three classrooms. Our large hall is used for physical education, music lessons, collective worship, drama productions and as a dining hall.

Hemyock Primary School News - June 2010

Primary School

We are delighted to say that Hemyock Primary School became part of the 'Children First federation' on the 4th May. This means that we are now federated with Wilcombe Primary School in Tiverton and Sampford Peverell C of E Primary School. We have an Executive Head teacher, Mr Gary Chown who oversees all three schools. The individuality of each school will be maintained by having its own Head of Teaching and Learning, whilst still working closely with the partner schools.

Primary School News

Primary SchoolIt has been an exciting snowy start to the new term. School was closed for two days, with our children spending a lovely couple of days (in their own time) learning masses of practical scientific stuff especially how the laws of physics relate to sledging down Pencross Hill! The PTFA and staff were out in force on the second of the (s)no(w) school days and cleared the walkways ensuring for a safe opening on the Friday,  when many others including Uffculme remained closed. For the 118 children who braved the snow, they had the treat of enjoying a Space Odyssey in the form of Simon Ould's inflatable planetarium as part of the whole school space project.

News From Hemyock Primary School - December 08

Primary SchoolNow that the cold and rainy weather looks like it is likely to stay, the shelter in the playground is coming into its own, keeping waiting parents and children dry. Furthermore, it is an excellent vantage point to observe the netball matches that are taking place on the school netball court this term. With two netball teams at the school, there is plenty of action. The Netballers won the first round of matches for their league and the basketball team got off to a good start too.
