Welcome to Hemyock

A delightful concert of Songs and Supper was presented over two evenings by Hemyock Singers at the parish hall giving the audiences a programme of songs from musicals mixed with well known folk songs which was followed by a 2 course hot supper provided by Karen Pinder and team. A brief introduction to the history of each section of songs was well presented by Sandy Hannaford, a member of the group.
Hemyock Singers will restart on Monday 12th January, at 7:30pm in the Baptist Church.
At the annual general meeting of Hemyock Singers the decision was made to look at formalising the separation of the Group.
Reflecting on the history of Singers, Chairman, Janice Bawler, reminded the meeting how the group had evolved over almost 40 years. What had begun as a Music Appreciation Club within Hemyock Leisure Centre had grown into a highly successful Society putting on choral concerts and on stage, award winning musicals. Today the success continues with entertaining concerts, plays and pantomimes.
Many of us were delighted to be able to join in the carol singing organised by the Friends of St Mary's for the Festival of Trees in Advent. Accompanied on accordion by our Musical Director, Ron White, numerous well loved carols were sung before the group walked to the church when more singing took place before we were all able to enjoy the refreshments arranged by the Friends.
Village entertainment at its best. Do not miss Hemyock Singers performance of the farcical comedy play "Surprise Package" written by Duncan Greenwood and Derek Parkes. Performed over three nights 24th - 26th October, Hemyock Parish Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets from Spar Hemyock (from 10th October).
All Saint’s Church, Culmstock was the venue for a choral concert given by Hemyock Singers with proceeds going to two charities supported by the Blackdown Mothers’ Union who provided excellent refreshments at the end of the evening
All of the music and some of the words had been composed by member Bob Brien who acted as Musical Director for the evening.
It gave us great delight to be able to make a presentation to our Vice President, Joan Lawrence, on her retirement as rehearsal pianist for our choral group. Joan has always gone that extra mile for the Group: she is unstinting in her support and encouragement and her musical knowledge has helped many a singer over the years. So from all past and present members we say a huge "Thank you"
