For many years now the Christmas period at St Mary's has been marked by the erection of a lighted star on top of the tower. This year it will not appear. The heavy old star (it took 4 people to safely erect it) failed its safety checks and the decision was taken to retire it. We have been working on a replacement, but at the time of going to press it is not certain that this will be completed in time. So if there's no physical light on the church tower this Christmastide it doesn't mean we're not celebrating the birth of Him who was 'The Light of the World.'
