As part of the Exeter Diocese 1100 anniversary celebrations, the Cullompton Deanery has held a service of Confirmation which was attended by a large congregation. Held at the parish church of St Mary's, Hemyock on Sunday evening (24th May) the service saw 10 candidates being confirmed by the Rt Revd Robert (Bob) Evens, Bishop of Crediton. In a break with tradition he welcomed other family members to stand before him as each candidate was blessed. The Gospel reading was given by Rev. David Sherwood, Priest-in-Charge at Hemyock.  A large candle, signifying the light of Christ given in Baptism was lit by Cheyenne and Erika Jordan, sisters of one of those being Confirmed, and music was led by the church choir and organist Ron White. The Confirmation was followed by Holy Communion

On 31st May St Mary's will welcome the Archdeacon of Exeter the Venerable Penny Driver for a service of Thanksgiving and Blessing for work carried out over recent months at the church which will be followed by a bring and share lunch. The church has strong ties with Uganda and it is hoped that Bishop Cramner and his wife will be in the congregation. All are welcome to attend the service which will start at the later time of 11.30 am
