The Annual Parish Meeting was held in the Parish Hall on the 30th April. About 60 people came to see and hear what the Parish Council has achieved this year and their plans for the next year.

There were posters highlighting the PC’s achievements and aims and a further one about the current allotment debate. The plans for the footway over the floodplain to Millhayes, which are at an advanced stage were also displayed.

Village organisations contributed written reports on their year’s activities, and other village groups had posters and gave out information.

Heather Stallard, as Chairman of the PC gave a brief ‘State of the Nation’ address, highlighting what had been achieved, what was planned and some of the issues surrounding them.

In addition, there were presentations about the Ring and Ride service which the PC supports; and the activities of the AONB, which has been very successful in attracting grant money into Hemyock. A brief talk about the new Blackdown Healthy Living Centre, due to open next week, was given by Steven Reed.

Following the presentations, there was a delicious wine and cheese selection provided by the PC, and an opportunity to ask informal questions of the Councillors and other exhibitors, and chat.

Although this is a mandatory part of the Parish Council’s duties it has become a very pleasant way to communicate in both directions with the most local tier of local government.
