Firefighters from across Somerset and Devon attended a fire at a timber yard in Hemyock this morning.

The alarm was raised at 6am stating that a large shed at Brookridge Timber was on fire.

Two appliances from Wellington, one from Cullompton and a water foam carrier from Barnstaple was mobilised to the incident due to the location and difficulty with locating water.

On arrival the crews requested an additional pump from Honiton to attend. This also meant the Incident Command Vehicle and a support pump were mobilised from Exmouth.

By 10am the single storey buiding had been completely destroyed by fire.

However, due to the involvement of gas cylinders, crews will be in attendance for 24 hours for cooling purposes.
