Members and friends of St Mary's Guild left Hemyock at 9:30 Wednesday June 6th for their outing. The venue this year was Crediton Parish Church for their floral tribute to 100 years of broadcasting.

We stopped at Bickleigh Mill for morning coffee, the resident peacock at the mill turned out to be the star attraction. He seemed to know he was being photographed and boy, did he preen and strut his stuff. The exhibition in Crediton Church was fabulous. How would they interpret broadcasting over the airwaves? We soon found out. From the very first broadcast through the war years, to the coronation when everyone tried to watch on small 14 inch black and white screens.

Desert Island Discs, Upstairs Downstairs, Monarch of the Glen, Blue Peter, Carols From Kings College Cambridge, Cricket, Poirot, Strictly Come Dancing, and Joseph's Technicolour Dream Coat, and many more were cleverly interpreted through flowers and artefacts.

A hearty lunch was enjoyed and again everything was very well organised. Our final stop was at Eggaston Gardens Centre where we had a delicious cream tea before returning home.

All in all a great success and Christine Brown and Val White are to be congratulated on organising a memorable outing.

Our July meeting was addressed by Brian and Sheila Pretty who spoke of their recent visit to many friends in Uganda. As always they experienced joys and sorrows. In recognition of their love and service, they have received a personal invitation to the enthronement of Cranmer Mugisha (who has visited Hemyock) as Bishop of Muhabara Diocese in the far south west of the country. Our prayers go with them.

Congratulations to Peter Reed and Tim Hannaford, the church clock looks fabulous.

Future dates for your diaries are August 4th for a sponsored walk, and Heritage Sunday in September.
