Carrying the flag of St George, Amie Sellick of 1st Hemyock Scout Group led members of the Tiverton District Scout and Guide Associations as they paraded through Tiverton for their annual service to honour the patron saint of Scouting and to remember the life and service of their founder, Robert Baden Powell.
Groups take it in turn to lead the procession and this year saw the smartly turned out Hemyock youngsters taking pride of place marching in step behind the Tiverton Town Band. The service, held at St Peter's Church, was conducted by Rev David Sherwood, Hemyock's Priest in Charge, who managed to get everyone on their feet to play 'Simon Says' at the beginning of his talk keeping them enthralled until he ended with a touch of magic.
After the renewing of Promises and the reading of Laws, prayers written by Hemyock's Julie Betteridge were read by young people. Flags were returned to standard bearers and the National Anthem sung before the young people proudly paraded back to the centre of town.
The retiring collection is to be divided between Children's Hospice South West and Devon Air Ambulance
