It was all change at the Hemyock WI Annual General Meeting on 7th October. The retiring President, Lynn Taylor, warmly welcomed Brenda Calcraft the new President. Committee members were elected with Judith Major as Secretary and Sandra Featherstone starting her second year as Treasurer. Heartfelt thanks was given to Lynn for her enthusiasm and commitment over the past years since reforming the WI at Hemyock. The wall hanging made by members was near completion and would be ready in time for the Group Meeting to be held at the beginning of November. This consists of squares worked by each member to depict their work, interests and hobbies in any medium. 2009 outings were discussed when members shall see 'Holiday on Ice' visit Cothay Manor and endeavour to solve a Treasure Hunt!
The meeting finished with an American Supper enjoyed by all.
In November we learnt the traditions and history of Corn Dollies and members had a go themselves.
On November 6th the members hosted the Culm Group Meeting, the theme being Halloween. Fancy dress was optional but many joined in the fun, having pumpkin soup, sticky toffee pudding and a witches brew. Story teller Claire Viner enthralled the Group with stories from around the Blackdowns of pixies, fairies and wolves.
The next meeting will be held on 2nd December in the Forbes Lounge when members will be making a cake topper to decorate their Christmas cakes. The competition will be the best cake topper made during the evening. January is our birthday month and we will be celebrating by holding our meeting later in the month at the Half Moon for 'Pie Night'.
The meetings are held in Forbes Lounge on the first Tuesday in the month at 7.30pm, visitors are very welcome.
