Culm Valley Young Farmers held their AGM on 13th October, where it was time to recap on yet another successful year and vote in the new members to take on the various roles as officers leading the club, from chairman down to the very important coffee makers! Thank you was said to Emma Greenslade and Emily York who as Chairman and Secretary along with the other officers had given much dedication and hard work in maintaining the clubs momentum. To start off the new year's competitions Culm Valley presented 3 teams at the group Public Speaking held at Awliscombe where the teams took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! Michelle Batting, Emily Vallis and Kate Stevens will now progress to represent East Devon at the County Round. Christmas is fast approaching and with this in mind the club plans to go on their annual tour of the area………. Carol Singing! A second night of entertainment is undoubtly in store, when members travel to watch this years Panto 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' at Bristol Hippodrome.
Next years drama production has been decided and with practises already underway the club is sure to be as successful as in previous years with the dedication and hard work from the cast as well as the team behind the scenes.
Sports is an aspect at which Culm Valley often excels and again this was proven when the club entered the County Hockey competition, coming an extremely respectable 3rd out of 19 teams. The girls netball competition is scheduled for the end of the month where it is hoped more success will follow. Other up and coming activities include Stockjudging at the English Winter Fair, debating, foot trimming, tractor driving and cake decorating classes as well as the County Christmas Ball.
Young Farmers Clubs not only provides young people with the opportunity to meet new friends but the grounding to learn new skills, participate in sports and the chance to compete within interclub competitions extending from pantomime to showing and stockjudging, there really is something for everyone with all interests to enjoy!
