Everyone was invited to the Longmead Open Day on the 22nd August, the first of its kind to showcase the many facilities on the field, which have been developed in the last few years with the Founball Foundation and the Parish Council. It was helped along by the Bottle Top Skiffle Band who played a good variety of music
The football club organised a penalty shootout, various dads vs. kids game and the barbecue and beer. The tennis club played the final of their singles competition, won by Paul Roy, and then turned the courts over to children using the ball machine. The basketball club demonstrated and played games and the Walk & Talk group, well, as one might expect, they walked and talked. Boules was played earnestly. There was an egg-and-spoon race for the very small, and youngsters of increasing size but too often a decreasing respect for the not-very-complicated rules (see photos).
A good time was shared by about 200 people, and we look forward to an expanded Open Day next year.
The best photos taken on the day have been put into a Gallery on this site. http://hemyock.org/mediagallery/album.php?aid=10&page=1 See if you can spot your friends.
