Culm Valley Young Farmers Club have recently presented two cheques to local charities following a busy year of fundraising. A cheque for £3515 was given to Macmillan Cancer Support, whilst a cheque for £200 was given to the Laura Persey Trust Fund. Various activities were held throughout the year to raise money for these worthwhile causes. The largest fundraiser was the Late Summer Ball held at Bridwell Park, Uffculme in August which raised £2000 of the total amount. Other activities included Carol Singing, an Easter Bingo, a 24hr muckathon, a re-run of our club pantomime and prize money from a rugby tournament. A huge well done goes to the previous chairman, Martin Westcott and other club members for putting lots of time and effort into raising such a fantastic amount of money!
Members have also been busy putting together a drama performance ready for the East Devon YFC Drama Competition in February at Exmouth. This has involved months of learning lines and creating scenery so hopefully their hard work will pay off! The Junior Member of the year competition will also be taking place at the beginning of February with Maggie Palmer and Louisa Squire taking part from Culm Valley. Members will also be taking part in patchwork classes, as well as training for the up and coming tug of war season!
Maggie Palmer has also won a Devon YFC Junior Travel Scholarship which means that she will be jetting off in the summer thanks to some very kind sponsers. A few members have just returned from a week at Val Thorens in the French Alps for some skiing – thankfully everyone returned home in one piece!
The next meetings will be held on Monday 11th and Monday 25th February at Forbes Lounge, Hemyock, 8pm. For any more information contact Sara Spiller on 07743127688.
