General News The last Around Hemyock article began with congratulating the Culm Valley Young Farmers' Club on some recent successes and it is good to do that again as they have recently celebrated their 60th anniversary sale and show held at Exeter Market which I believe was featured on a local television news programme. We also send them condolences on the death of past member Eleanor Dlugosz who was killed so tragically in Iraq.

St Mary's Church Our April meeting fell in Holy Week. The Rev. Ron White gave a presentation on the theme 'Easter in Image. Words and music'. A set of slides showing the Cross in various locations around the world was interspersed with poems and music which gave space for personal reflection. Refreshments were served to end a thought provoking afternoon.

St Mary's Church Recently, I came across a 'thank you' card sent to me three years ago by the children a tiny village school. I had been invited to take their assembly and the whole school was there - all twenty seven of them! The children were alive and buzzing, infused with the joy and celebration of spring. As we began our short act of worship, the children surprised me by becoming quiet and attentive. A small girl came forward, lit a candle and turning to the others said "The Lord be with you." to which they replied solemnly "and also with you."

Longmead Field Play area A sign stipulating ‘do’s and don’ts’ was needed before the playground could be opened. This should be ready in about two weeks time. ROSPA required that the play area be monitored for damage and hazards to children.
Trim trail The lottery fund bid had failed. It was agreed that, given the number of failed bids for the trim trail, the best way forward now was to do-it-ourselves with community involvement. Two promises of £1000 towards the bridge over the stream have been received.

It was agreed that a boule pit should be included as requested by the twinning club and that a path should be kept clear on the far side of the stream.
