Rev David Aylmer Evans retired to Hemyock following his final living as Vicar of a group of churches on the Somerset levels. His curacies had been in Wales and Maccelesfield, followed by a living in Chester before moving into school work and later becoming a counsellor at South Molton School and Community College.

A number of local youngsters who attend Uffculme School recently took part in a school exchange visit to Wellington's twin town, Lillebonne, France and a return visit has just been enjoyed. The French visitors have enjoyed visits to Montacute, Glastonbury and the Peat Moors Centre, Explore@ Bristol, and Crealey Adventure Park. Their English friends joined them for an evening at the Wellesley Cinema and two days were spent with host families. Prior to arriving the group spent a few hours visiting London

Whilst in France the English students visited Paris, Honfleur, Bayeux, Arromanches and Parc Asterix as well as enjoying the Easter weekend with host families

Many people will, by now, be aware that the Pump's editors Hilary and Matt Clements have a baby daughter, Verity. The birth was not without its complications and Verity arrived 9 weeks early weighing in at 2lbs 10oz on Valentines Day. She is progressing well and we send the family love and the readerships’ warmest congratulations.

A while ago I offered 4 x 1 hour French lessons at an Auction of Promises in support of Hemyock Preschool. The person who bought them was unable to take them up and expressed her desire that someone else should benefit at no personal cost. GCSE is coming. If interested, please contact Val White 681020.

Update on Vladimir

There will be a number of people who will remember that we are friends with a family in Romania and may recall that the family's eldest son, Vladimir, holidayed with us for a month a number of years ago.  Vladimir is reading architecture at a university in Bucharest. He recently entered and won first prize in a national competition. His prize is a trip to Milan.

As the Coffee Morning we held last year was so successful, we are holding the event again on Saturday June 13th, from 10:00am until 12:30pm. We are also having an evening event in Autumn, the tickets will be on sale from April 30th and will be £6 each.

Blackdown Community Choir

The Blackdown Community Choir is now recruiting for the summer term, to start after Easter. All voices welcome, especially men! Ability to read music is not required, but you must be able to hold a harmony part. Singers need to commit to Wednesday night practice. After a cloudy and damp start for some in the east, it will become drier and brighter, with good spells of sunshine developing across all parts. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine, despite the northerly breeze. Maximum Temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

A generally dry and colder night with clear spells for many, allowing a patchy frost to develop. Thicker cloud arriving in the east later with a spot of rain possible. Minimum Temperature 0 °C.

Wednesday:

Rather cloudy at times on Wednesday, but still with some bright or sunny spells. The odd light shower is also possible. Feeling pleasant in any sunshine. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Dry and bright, with sunny spells and turning increasingly colder during this period, with widespread frosts overnight. A brisk easterly wind will also develop, making it feel much colder.
