Musical soiree in aid of Devon Air Ambulance and BSG

Over 100 people took the opportunity to enjoy a Music Soiree at the home of Jean and Philip Vowles of Hemyock when £400 was raised. The two charities to benefit equally are the Blackdown Support Group and the Devon Air Ambulance.

Many visitors took advantage of the beautiful grounds and views as the earlier section of the evening’s entertainment took place in front of the conservatory before moving indoors. Those taking part varied from primary age children to the more mature.

Flooding in Hemyock - May 2008

General News Hemyock was hit by a terrific storm at 7pm on Thursday 27th May. The storm was centred on South Somerset with Crewkerne and Ilminster being badly hit; the edge was bad enough. Within minutes the Recreation Field, Bowling Green, the road and gardens of South View and surrounding areas were submerged as rain relentlessly beat down amidst thunder and lightning.

Annual St George's Day Parade

General News Carrying the flag of St George, Amie Sellick of 1st Hemyock Scout Group led members of the Tiverton District Scout and Guide Associations as they paraded through Tiverton for their annual service to honour the patron saint of Scouting and to remember the life and service of their founder, Robert Baden Powell.

Groups take it in turn to lead the procession and this year saw the smartly turned out Hemyock youngsters taking pride of place marching in step behind the Tiverton Town Band.

Hemyock Parish Hall is the venue for the launch of the 2008 Blackdown Hills Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 24th May from 10am to 4pm

There will be something for everyone - local producers selling their fabulous food, drink and crafts. Take some refreshments whilst catching up with  friends and enjoy the entertainment on offer. A great family fun day out and its free!

Erika Jordan's Story

General News When keen reader Erika Jordan heard of a competition being run by the Fostering Network/Roald Dahl Story Writing Competition she couldn't wait to begin her entry. This week she heard that whilst she is not one of the main prize winner's her story had been selected for the reserve list and to her great delight she has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition and a signed copy of a book by well known children's author Jacqueline Wilson.

General News As I write this Easter Sunday is just a few days away when many will have enjoyed visits from family and friends. Others may be on holiday for a longer period and we welcome them and hope they will enjoy the delights of the area. Despite the turbulent weather we sometimes experience nature delights in reminding us that warmer weather will soon be here as colourful Spring flowers, blossoms and budding leaves brighten our days.

Blackdown Hills Walking Group

General News The group was first started in May 2006 with the aim of bringing together everyone who enjoys walking in and around the beautiful Blackdown Hills in the company of other, like-minded people. Since our inauguration, membership has steadily increased to around 70 and the number of walks from 11 to 18 per year.
