Under musical director Ron White songs from Showboat opened the evening along with the foot tapping Chattanooga Choo Choo. Arrangements of Fly Me To The Moon and Tea for Two were followed by the humorous. The Goslings. The gentle music of Drink to me Only, Greensleeves and Home Sweet Home followed by a beautiful setting of the Londonderry Air with a haunting accompaniment soon changed as the choir lifted the pensiveness of the audience with the lively Lil Liza Jane and Ain’t Misbehavin’ The ladies took the floor for I feel pretty from West Side Story with the men of the chorus delighting the audience with Gee Officer Krumpke. The choir then found themselves singing at speed with two songs from Salad Days, a not so well known show, which brought a “phew” from a member of the audience as the songs finished!
A selection of well loved songs from Guys and Dolls brought a lovely balance of music to a close and warm applause from the audience. Mention must be made of pianist Nigel Atkinson whose delightful and accomplished accompaniment was a great contribution to the evening.
With audiences members saying they enjoyed the show from start to finish; it had brought back some wonderful memories; and please let us know when your next event will be - we’ll be back, Hemyock Singers, despite one or two very minor hiccups, had once again given a fine evenings entertainment.
