Council Tax Energy Scheme to Go Live
From tomorrow Mid Devon householders can apply for an energy rebate, to help towards increasing energy bill costs.
The scheme is part of a package launched by the Government but two schemes are being administered by MDDC. Applications for the scheme open on Saturday, although many direct debit customers will have their rebate automatically applied. Letters advising on what you should do are being posted over the next few days.
All occupied Mid Devon households, in council tax band A-D, are eligible for the £150 rebate, which does not need to be repaid. This means 4 out of 5 households in England will benefit, including around 95% of rented properties. Second homes or empty properties will not qualify.
For those whose property falls in bands E to H there is a discretionary scheme which bill payers can apply to.
If you are eligible, we are making arrangements to get this paid as soon as we can after the 1st April 2022. Please do not contact us to chase this payment, we will be in touch with you.
Dean Emery, Corporate Manager for Revenues and Benefits, said:
“With the prospect of significantly higher bills on the horizon for many of us we want to get this rebate out to our communities as quickly as we can. You can really help us by following the advice on the letters being sent, please make sure you supply the supporting documents when applying and use the account number from your 2022/23 Council Tax Bill.”
MDDC also offers a range of support to people in financial difficulties and we would encourage you to get in touch if you are facing difficulties paying your bills, need help with budgeting or are struggling to access food.
