Valley Arts and Social Society (Valley Arts)

We are a group of people from the Hemyock area who get together to put on a show each year in February. This year (2023) we staged The Adventures of Robin Hood for 3 nights to full houses in Hemyock Parish Hall. Our previous panto was Cinderella for which we won a prestigious award from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

A spin off from the panto this year was the formation of a singing for pleasure group which met for a few weeks in April/May. We learnt some new songs which we performed at the King’s Coronation event in Hemyock and danced The Lambeth Walk with unsuspecting bystanders!

We also hold social events - last year we had a very enjoyable 60s and 70s themed evening with local band The Bird Dogs and have previously hosted a Murder Mystery evening. Each year at Christmas we get together for a meal at the Catherine Wheel. Our social event this year will be a BBQ on Longmead Field in September to which all are welcome. We are also looking to organise a coach trip to see a show in London, Bristol or Plymouth in Spring 2024.

We welcome anyone over 18 who is willing to help out in any way including taking part in the show - no previous experience is necessary. This year we are putting on a series of workshops such as dance, make-up, acting, lighting and singing for members who may be interested to learn new skills.

We are an all-inclusive group with an age range in our current membership between 18 and 86! We have great fun together and also experience the satisfaction that comes from the team work involved in putting on a show and entertaining and enriching a wide cross section of the local community.

If you are interested in joining the group and think you may like to participate in any way, don’t hesitate to contact one of the following:
