Concerns Over Further Housing Development At Hemyock

Hemyock has seen considerable housing development over recent years – Longmead, Otters Rest, Millhayes farm - and whilst planners have promised that there will be further significant building projects in the years to come, one imminent development is causing concern to residents of the village and their Parish Councillors. The construction of a further 23 dwellings in the High Street at Churchills Farm which is expected to come to planning shortly, may add to the already stretched village infrastructure. Parish Council Chairman Heather Stallard said that whilst the Parish Council were not against the development in principle, residents are very concerned about the impact on roads, village school and water and sewerage services. So much so, that the Parish Council agreed to write to District & County Councils and South West water seeking an early review of the likely impact of the proposed development and asking them to put village minds at rest. Last year newspapers reported the overflow of waste water and sewage into gardens in the newly opened Longmead housing estate, and residents fear that the Churchills Farm development may well add to the problem, which has not been satisfactorily resolved say residents.
