Archived Stories When the Upper Culm area formally twins next year with “Les Jumelage des Grees”, the name chosen by four villages for their Twinning Association situated in the far South of Brittany, there will be much pomp and ceremony according to Brian Clist, Chairman of the Upper Culm Twining Association (UCTA). The twinning came about 11 years ago because of a chance casual conversation between two people from their respective geographical areas and next year’s event it will be another milestone in the association's development .

In his report to the AGM, Brian said that this year’s visit by the French was particularly successful with around 60 people coming over to stay in the Upper Culm area. A formal Twinning agreement will be signed in St Herblon in May 2008 when people from the Upper Culm make their bi-annual visit to France. Official invitations will be going out to Chairs of the three Parish Councils and other local dignitaries who will be asked to join in the celebrations.

Brian thanked members of his committee for their splendid efforts in maintaining an excellent Association. In particular he was mindful of the hard work carried out by Mike & Sylvia Eastick who share the secretarial and organising role, and Sally Cartledge the Treasurer. The next event will be a fund raising Dance on 22nd September at Hemyock Village Hall with music provided by the Generation Gap. Tickets are available from the Spar Shop in Hemyock or any committee member.
