At last Hemyock has a footbridge over the river Culm.
The existing road bridge is narrow and has become quite dangerous to pedestrians with the recent significant increase in vehicle traffic. But it is a footbridge which goes nowhere, at least for the time being. Devon County Council Highways Department, on behalf of Bloors, has yet to begin work to construct a new footpath on the Southern side of the river toward the village and link an existing footpath on the northern side.
The teen muscle power of village young people helped to put the bridge together and staff from Brookridge Timber swung the finished crossing into place. Hemyock Parish Council is engaged in an active programme of footpath provision as part of its concern for the walking safety of villagers.
