I write to thank everyone who so generously donated money and gifts to be sent to the marines of 40 Commando serving in Afganistan. The Royal Marines Association Gibraltar Club of Mid Devon has been the central collection and distribution centre for this operation and we would like you to know how things are going. All the Christmas Cards were delivered to Norton Manor Camp and sent out free on an RAF resupply aircraft before Christmas. The gifts donated and the ones bought with the cash will, at the request of the Commanding Officer, be going out over the next month as New Year presents. Apparently they were swamped with presents at Christmas and he felt that a "special delivery" in the New Year would be a real morale booster as they start their run down to returning to England in April.
The catalyst for this exercise was Sonjia Watkins, herself the daughter of a Royal Marine Colonel and we would like to give a special mention and thanks to her for all her collection and delivery around the area.
Again thank you all for your generosity I know that it is very much appreciated by the marines.
