Young Farmers Update - March 2008

Archived Stories In January we entered four teams into the Countryside and Safety quiz. Well done to all who took part, especially Marcus Busch, Carly Veale and Jeremy Turner for coming fifth.

We also won the east Devon group dodge ball, which again, representing the group we came first at Okehampton later on in the month. We also won ladies 5 a side football and U18 men's football. Also we played skittles against Axminster and lost by 15 pins. The East Devon round of Stars in their Eyes took place in February, congratulations to Mark Davis who came 3rd as Daniel Bedingfield. Sara Spiller and Kevin Davis were choose to represent Culm valley at the East Devon group round of Junior member of the Year, well done to them both and congratulations to Sara for coming first.

Sara then went on to represent East Devon at the County round where she had to be interviewed and had to put together a portfolio about her and her involvement in YFC. Overall, Sara came 2nd, well done.

Also February saw us on the stage when we performed our club entertainment of 'Dr Watt' at the East Devon round of the Entertains competition. The performance went amazingly well and huge congratulations must go to the cast as well as a huge thanks to Lorraine Pengelly for directing it, Brenda Percey for her musical accompaniment, Hazel Davis for the costumes and the backstage crew. On the same night, Andy Broomfield and Gill Manley took part in the second group round of senior member of the year. Congratulations to Andy who came 2nd and to Gill who came joint 3rd.

We also entered 2 teams into the rotary public speaking competition. Well done and thank you to both teams for taking part and well done to Sara Spiller, Emily York & Kevin Davis for coming second.

On the sport side of things, we played skittles against Axminster and won, played skittles and pool against Honiton and won the pool and lost the skittles by 3pins. We also played pool against Yarcombe and won 6-3. Also 46 members went ten pin bowling to select a team.

We also held a fundraising event at the Taunton Vale Harriers Point-to-Point to raise money for the Laura Persey Fund. We had a cake stall and 5 lads went in the stocks and had various foods thrown at them (including soup and tomatoes).Thank you to all those who helped make the event possible and overall we raised £332!
