As people may well be aware 2009 marks the 1100th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Exeter, and also that of the Bath and Wells Diocese. The celebrations come to a climax at the end of June. On Friday 26th June there is a special youth event at the Cathedral starting at 8pm. This is organised by Soul Exeter and "Nightchurch". On June 27th there is the day of celebration at Exeter with all sorts of things going on and lots of special visitors including the present Archbishop of Canterbury, Very Rev Dr Rowan Williams. It starts with a special open air communion starting at 11.30pm (crèche and children's activities also going on) and then until late afternoon there are a whole range of events in the Cathedral area.
At 5.30pm on the Cathedral Green we have "Songs of Praise" with BBC’s Judi Spiers. The day ends with a concert with AJ's Big Band starting at 7pm.
You can find full details by visiting www.devon1100.org or the main Diocesan website www.anglican-exeter.org.uk. We are thinking of organising a coach from the benefice to Exeter for the day. Anyone who is interested in this should either fill in the forms left in each church or contact Hemyock's PCC secretary on 664729.
