Archived Stories Hemyock Women's Institute meet in Forbes Lounge at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month.

Members have tried their hand at painting pottery tiles with the help of Nicola Werner. Some found this easy others quite difficult but most enjoyed the experience. Nicola took the tiles and fired them so everyone has a memento of that evening. Amazing photographs taken by two members while on holiday were interesting as did the cookery demonstration put on by Karen Pinder.... a really versatile cook who managed to make her creations look wonderful yet easy to make.

Poetry reading by Pauline Field was quite a hit with Pauline reading some poems she wrote plus some classics chosen by her as well as member's choices. The Treasure Hunt organised by Elaine and Julie followed by supper at the Ivy Cafe was as successful as ever. as well as the skittles evening which replaced what would have been a very muddy garden visit.

There has been a talk on Fair Trade products and a demonstration of Beauty Products using the Neal's Yard range of products.

Each Meeting has competitions and often a quiz. Skittles matches are played against other WI's in Devon and Hemyock came second in the competition at the Spring Group Meeting at Halberton when 'Afternoon tea on a tray' was the theme. Hemyock came 4th out of nine entries at the Mid Devon Show when a 'Summer Event' had to be staged. Our choice was a Teddy Bear's Picnic and some high marks were scored by individual members.

Visitors are always welcome so why not come and find out what the WI has to offer not only on a local level but at County and national. All Membes get an excellent Magazine called 'WI Life we get a County News Letter and as the WI has it's own College near Oxford, there are numerous courses on offer where members can go for a few days and always have a great time.
