January's meeting was unfortunately cancelled due to the bad weather, but the Reading Club at Cindy's was well attended and members were made welcome and enjoyed their Birthday meal at the Catherine Wheel.
In February the group were shown how to make felt, and some have gone on try this newly learned craft at home. The competition was for knitted toy. Members have enjoyed a 'Beauty Day' in Exeter and a visit to Slimbridge on a County outing and thoroughly enjoyed watching the swans landing in large numbers at dusk.
Spence Kingdon entertained the group by recounting his childhood memories of growing up on a farm in North Devon, it bought back many happy times for people and the competition of a farming photo was won by Edith Butler with a fabulous photo showing the building of a hay stack.
A friendly skittles match was played with the Bishopswood Ladies at the Holman Clavel had a good turnout.
Holcome Rogus hosted the Spring Group meeting, the speaker being a vet whose hobby is wildlife photography, he gave an insight to the lengths that photographers go to to get the perfect shot including laser beam triggered cameras and hidden cameras in his loft to photograph a hornets nest.
A sausage and mash lunch in March was a huge success, sixty lunches were served, this will be held again so watch this space!
The March reading group was fully attended at Sandra's, Elegance was enjoyed by all readers and Eragon promises to be a mythical, magical read.
Members will be going to see the Calendar Girls in Torquay this year and have a varied programme of speakers and activities planned.
The next meeting is on 6th April. The meetings are held in Forbes Lounge on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm, visitors are very welcome. Cindy Jefferson (01823 681083).
