Temporary Membership
We welcome visitors staying in the Blackdowns who want to play tennis becoming Temporary Members. This can be arranged in advance of your visit or at the time. This can be for one or two weeks, with a maximum of 4 weeks in any year. To become a Temporary Member, contact the Secretary, listed below.
Teams
We run a Men's Team, who play in the Stones League and two mixed teams who are in the Somerset League. If you are interested in playing for either of these teams you should contact Tim Julier or Rachel Bussell respectively, or come to Team Practice.
Social Tennis
We organise Social Tennis at various times to suit all abilities.

Sunday morning from 10:30 to 12:30 - Team practice

Court Booking
There is a court booking system on this website. Members will receive their passwords to be able to book courts when they have paid their subscriptions for the year.
Anyone can look at the booking system, but not enter bookings, by using the Username 'tennisread' and also the Password 'tennisread'.
Resident Coach
We have a resident coach now, Dan Loftus, who has been to the Devon Tennis Academy. He will be running various organised coaching events and is available to Members for private coaching. Contact him on 07525 187452.
Floodlights
We are proud owners of floodlights on 2 courts. They are operated by the token machine outside the pavilion. The cost of the token is £2 which gives 30 minutes floodlighting on one court. Please note that the floodlights will switch off automatically at 9:00 pm, regardless of how much token value has been entered. Please also note that if the floodlights are allowed to go out, they will not restart for about 5 minutes.
Tokens for floodlight use can be purchased at the Spar shop in Station Road.

We enjoyed the long spell of lovely autumn weather and now the rain and winds have arrived we are still managing to get some tennis in, in between the showers.
Play continues through the winter with the floodlights enabling us to have our evening club sessions and friendlies with Honiton Tennis Club. Club sessions are on Thursday evenings (6.30pm), Saturday mornings (10.30am) and Sunday mornings (10.30 am, advanced).

Following on from our press release in the last Pump about a Grant that we have been awarded, we can report that the Ball Machine should be with us by August - just in time for Club Coach, Dan Loftus to use on our coaching courses in the holidays, which is great!

The weather has not been encouraging for tennis players this year but we have survived, and the patient ones have managed to find an occasional dry sunny day. Let’s hope we have more of those during the autumn as the “Men’s Sunday morning League” is starting up soon, we are continuing to have coaching with Dan Loftus and the Club sessions continue, with floodlights, if necessary.

Our mixed team who competed this year for the first time in the West Somerset League have successfully moved up to the 3rd division for the next season. After finishing in 2nd place in the 4th division we achieved a convincing win, 7-1, against Taunton E in the play-off. A big thankyou to all who played in the league and we hope to be able to enter a second team for next season if there is sufficient interest

Our Strawberry Tennis afternoon was not rained off! We had a very pleasant afternoon in an American Tournament, with partners drawn out of a hat, which Julie Steed and Jerry Popham won. Then we adjourned to the Pavilion where Ann Langford and Sue Lambert had organised a slap-up tea with strawberries, champagne, and cakes.

Dear Member, The new season is upon us and, with all our new facilities now in place (courts, pavilion and floodlights), it should be a good one! As you will see below, the committee has been working hard to develop the club and get more people playing tennis.
