Welcome to Hemyock
Friday, March 12 2010 @ 12:01 AM GMT Welcome to Hemyock
Science & Faith
![]() Barry Jennings was undoubtedly just the right person to talk on issues of science and faith to Hemyock Men. Barry retired from being Research Director at English China Clays and Research professor at Reading University as well as being a visiting Fellow at several Universities before being ordained into the Church of England.
New Players for The 2010-11 Season
Hemyock Youth Football are looking for new players for the next season. We are hoping to have age groups for Under 15, Under 13, Under 11, Under 9 and a new team for Under 7's. Anyone interested should contact Mark Jordan on 01884 841030 or Nick Allen on 01823 680520. Training still carries on on Tuesday for Under 8 6-7pm, Under 10 7-8pm, Under 14 8-9pm. With the Under 12's training on Thursdays at 6-7pm, anyone invited.
Mobile Library
Over the last ten years the number of people using the mobile library service has declined by more than 40%. Devon District Council want to revitalise the mobile library service so that it becomes a better used and more vibrant service within rural communities. The people who still use the service value it very highly but the drastic decline in use means that DCC now need to consider how we increase use of the service to deliver the best value for money for Devon’s communities.
Around Hemyock - February & March 2010
Just before Christmas those who went to a concert given by Hemyock Singers may remember them singing 'Winter Wonderland'. Included in the song are the words 'Over the ground lies a mantle of snow.... In the lane snow is glistening ..... A beautiful sight ..... Walking' in a winter wonderland'. Recent weeks have certainly brought us a mantle of snow and it has without doubt been a beautiful sight greatly enjoyed by the young and young at heart with sledging, snowmen, igloos and snowballs abounding. Of course for some it has meant being unable to get out and about and created difficulties for farmers and other folk. What it has seen is neighbour helping neighbour which is always a good thing.

Valley Arts & Social Club News
Valley-Arts have enjoyed an active and successful second year, we finished 2009 with an awards evening and Christmas Dinner. The awards: "The best overall male performance" and "The best overall female performance" were presented to Richard Shepherd and Helen Williams for their portrayal of Buttons and Beauty in the pantomime BEAUTY and the BEAST. In December the group took delivery of new staging funded mainly from a grant from Mid Devon Council. This means that Valley Arts now own more than half of the staging. Anybody wishing to hire any of our staging should email us at valley-arts@live.co.uk
Primary School News
It has been an exciting snowy start to the new term. School was closed for two days, with our children spending a lovely couple of days (in their own time) learning masses of practical scientific stuff especially how the laws of physics relate to sledging down Pencross Hill! The PTFA and staff were out in force on the second of the (s)no(w) school days and cleared the walkways ensuring for a safe opening on the Friday, when many others including Uffculme remained closed. For the 118 children who braved the snow, they had the treat of enjoying a Space Odyssey in the form of Simon Ould's inflatable planetarium as part of the whole school space project.
