Hemyock

The largest national cycle race, the Tour of Britain (used to be called the Milk Race) is coming through Hemyock on September 9th 2008.  This is one stage of the race, and it will go from Chard to Burnham on Sea.  More details, including a map, are available here and here

Devon County has passed the parking enforcement on to MDDC as from the 5th May. The Enforcement Officers have been very lenient in the first few weeks, just to let the new arrangements bed in, by now they will be keeping watch on how we all park. This will not be like the Traffic Warden approach, their brief is to be helpful, to give advice where to park etc. The whole object is to keep traffic flowing and relieve congestion. It is not revenue raising, it is funded by DCC and we have three Enforcement Officers for the whole of Mid Devon. You can be sure that some will park in parking restricted areas and they will have to pay the charge of £50 or £70, depending on the severity of the offence, reduced by 50% if paid within 14 days, they will have the right of appeal.

1943 was a very special year for Ken and Audrey Salter as it was the year of their wedding. Now 65 years on we send them warmest congratulations and wish them many more happy years.

The past month has been an horrendous time for those living in the Far East following the cyclone in Myanmar (Burma) and the horrific earthquake in China. The scenes we have been shown on television or in the newspapers cannot begin to describe the anguish felt by the survivors. We have seen or heard of those in Myanmar who are denied the aid they so desperately need and yet is readily available - and those in China who have lost so many relatives, especially children in the schools that collapsed.

Millhayes Hall was previously the Social Club of the St Ivel works in Hemyock.  It, together with the vehicle garages, is all that is left of the factory which used to produce Utterly Butterly.

It appears that the Post Office in Hemyock has been saved from closure during the recent nationwide review.
