The past month has been an horrendous time for those living in the Far East following the cyclone in Myanmar (Burma) and the horrific earthquake in China. The scenes we have been shown on television or in the newspapers cannot begin to describe the anguish felt by the survivors. We have seen or heard of those in Myanmar who are denied the aid they so desperately need and yet is readily available - and those in China who have lost so many relatives, especially children in the schools that collapsed.

Archived Stories Millhayes Hall was previously the Social Club of the St Ivel works in Hemyock.  It, together with the vehicle garages, is all that is left of the factory which used to produce Utterly Butterly.

Musical soiree in aid of Devon Air Ambulance and BSG

Over 100 people took the opportunity to enjoy a Music Soiree at the home of Jean and Philip Vowles of Hemyock when £400 was raised. The two charities to benefit equally are the Blackdown Support Group and the Devon Air Ambulance.

Many visitors took advantage of the beautiful grounds and views as the earlier section of the evening’s entertainment took place in front of the conservatory before moving indoors. Those taking part varied from primary age children to the more mature.

The official twinning with the region of the Jumelage des Grees and the Upper Culm Twinning Association took place in France recently (24th May 2008). Hemyock and Clayhidon were united with the French villages of Anetz, Pouille, La Roches Blanche and St. Herblon.

Flooding in Hemyock - May 2008

Archived Stories Hemyock was hit by a terrific storm at 7pm on Thursday 27th May.  The storm was centred on South Somerset with Crewkerne and Ilminster being badly hit; the edge was bad enough. Within minutes the Recreation Field, Bowling Green, the road and gardens of South View and surrounding areas were submerged as rain relentlessly beat down amidst thunder and lightning.
