A Village on the Blackdown Hills
Welcome to Hemyock Tuesday, May 30 2023 @ 10:30 am UTC
Wow!! Well done everyone for the tremendous efforts you have made in decorating your properties with Christmas lights - what a fantastic spectacle.
For many years the Parish Clerk and I have driven the various judges around the Parish for their assessments and selections for the prizes the Parish Council give out for the properties with the best Christmas lights displays. This festive season I was (for obvious reasons) confronted with 10 times as many illuminated properties than normal. The circular theme of unity and togetherness was uppermost in people’s minds and visible in nearly all the displays. Well done everyone for adopting this symbol. My judgment reflects this.
Have you visited Hemyock Turbary recently?
The parish council has just finished creating a hard standing area for parking to improve access to the turbary. Many thanks to Councillor Nick Moon for overseeing the project.
The pc is hoping that Mid Devon District Council will agree to install a litter bin.
Hemyock Parish Council opens new play area at Longmead.
The new play area at Longmead is due to open this afternoon (21st October). Due to COVID-19 is would not be appropriate to have a large official opening/gathering so instead please see pictures from the parish council.
We hope you enjoy the new play area.

South West Water need to replace the sewer main from the pumping station to the treatment plant. This will involve digging two pits in the corners of Longmead field. The work will commence on Monday 19th October and last approximately 6 weeks. During this time access around the trim trail, football matches and training should be unaffected. The work will be fenced off and covered over. See attached plan for more information. If anyone experiences any problems please let the parish clerk know. Donna Evans, hemyockpc@gmail.com.
Staying settled this week with further warm sunshine at times.
Early patchy cloud thinning and clearing to leave an increasingly bright and sunny day. Generally feeling warm despite a breeze, however locally rather windy and cooler in some coastal areas. Maximum temperature 22 °C.
Clear at first. Cloud arriving in eastern counties this evening, and some filtering west during the overnight period. A little milder than recent nights, and still rather breezy in places. Minimum temperature 7 °C.
Much of the region will probably start off quite cloudy. Slowly brightening up with warm sunny spells breaking through by the afternoon. Feeling a little cooler, especially in the breeze. Maximum temperature 21 °C.
Staying dry with high pressure remaining dominant. Plenty of strong sunshine but some cloud is likely at times, mainly during the mornings. Warm days, albeit cool overnight. Breezy at times.
