A Village on the Blackdown Hills
Welcome to Hemyock Sunday, November 24 2024 @ 10:54 am UTC
At a very opportune time comes this advice from Devon Association of Local Councils www.dapc.org.uk about the responsibilities and consequences of clearing snow from public areas. The Big Society has arrived!
Letters from 13 key businesses were presented at a recent Parish Council meeting in Hemyock demanding action on the need for passing places on Pencross Hill to the North of the village. As the village has grown, there has been a marked increase in the number and size of commercial vehicles on this route to the M5, Taunton and Wellington. Councillors heard that when buses and HGVs meet, there is just no room for them to pass and no specific passing places for them to reverse into, on what is a very steep hill.
On Sunday 21st November at 10.00am we shall formally open our new flood plain bridge . This significant project was instigated and funded on behalf of local people by Hemyock Parish Council. Local landowner Geoff Acland will 'cut the tape' and there will be refreshments afterwards. Come along and support this important village event.
Do you remember Ron 'Skip' Lowman, Baloo and Rikki?
Sunday 17th October will see both past and present members and supporters of 1st Hemyock Scout Group worshipping at St Mary's Church as they celebrate 50 years of continual Scouting in the village.
The service will start at 11.15a.m. and an informal get together will take place afterwards at the Catherine Wheel.
So do 'Be Prepared' and come and join in this special day
Unsettled with persistent heavy rain and strong winds. Mild.
Another wet day with a band of heavy and persistent rain eastwards across the region. Very windy, especially along the south coast where coastal gales are possible. Some drier spells developing in the west by later afternoon. Very mild. Maximum temperature 15 °C.
A damp evening with rain gradually clearing eastwards overnight. Clear spells to follow, however blustery showers readily developing and spreading into the west. Feeling much cooler. Minimum temperature 4 °C.
A cool start with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. These heavy at times with the odd rumble of thunder possible. Temperatures returning closer to the seasonal average. Maximum temperature 12 °C.
Sunshine and showers on Tuesday with much lighter winds. Heavy spells of rain moving through on Wednesday and feeling colder. Often cloudy on Thursday with rain possible later.
