Congratulations to three teams from Hemyock Tennis Club who have won in their respective Leagues this year.  In the spring, the Men's Team won their Division of the Somerset Winter League for which they were awarded a rather smart engraved glass bowl, and just now the Mixed Summer Leagues have finished.

Come and join in the Parish Harvest Festival celebrations at St Mary's Church on Friday 24th September at 7.00pm.

After the service there will be a supper in the Parish Hall followed by entertainment.

The celebration of Heritage Sunday in Hemyock began at the Morning Prayer service at the parish church of St Mary's which was taken by Rev Ron White. The full choral service using the book of Common Prayer included canticles and responses from the Cathedral Psalter, readings from the Alternative Version of the bible and the singing of the anthem 'Let Us Now Praise Famous Men' . Readings were given by Friederike Reed, David Bawler and Rev David Sherwood who also led the prayers using The Litany and gave the sermon.  At the end of the service a basket of flowers was presented to Peter and Friederike Reed whose 50th wedding anniversary was due in the coming week.

September 12th  is Heritage Sunday and the Friends of St Mary's are organising displays and demonstrations at the parish church to show some of the village history and crafts. Amongst them will be photographs and memorabilia from the Scout Group who are celebrating their 50th consecutive year in the village and the Brownies who are nationally celebrating their centenary The event is open from 2.30pm - 5pm and light refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon. 

Longmead Open Day

Everyone was invited to the Longmead Open Day on the 22nd August, the first of its kind to showcase the many facilities on the field, which have been developed in the last few years with the Founball Foundation and the Parish Council. It was helped along by the Bottle Top Skiffle Band who played a good variety of music

Roadways activity in Hemyock

A large number of activities seem to be happening on the roads around Hemyock, all at once.   The PCs initiative to replace the walkway over the Culm is finally coming to fruition, and Devon County Highways seem to have finally got their act together, though there is a strong suspicion that all this work is due to the forthcoming Round Britain Cycle race in September.

Station Road closure details

South West Highways have sent through the notice of closure for Station Road while they do work to alleviate the flooding on the far side of the bridge.   The closure is from 16th August, aiming to finish on the 27th.

The official routes are from the A38 via Culmstock for the main village and via Symondsburrow for the Millhayes side as normal.  These will be signposted from the A38.

A Day In The Life Of A Summer Fair

Waking up at 6am the good news .... sunshine! 

At 7am Patricia could be seen putting up bunting around the Recreation Field and by 8am David was erecting a gazebo. Around 10am members of the Scout Group were putting up marquees and   stallholders could be seen setting out around 40 colourful stalls. Apple AM (Taunton Hospital radio) set up the PA system which would be used throughout the day as well as providing music and a live link to the hospital. At 11am Rev David Sherwood introduced the guest of honour Chief Gbobanuyi of Okitipupa who opened the Summer Fair of St Mary's church.
