Welcome to Hemyock, Anonymous Sunday, February 01 2026 @ 04:24 pm UTC
A number of local youngsters who attend Uffculme School recently took part in a school exchange visit to Wellington's twin town, Lillebonne, France and a return visit has just been enjoyed. The French visitors have enjoyed visits to Montacute, Glastonbury and the Peat Moors Centre, Explore@ Bristol, and Crealey Adventure Park. Their English friends joined them for an evening at the Wellesley Cinema and two days were spent with host families. Prior to arriving the group spent a few hours visiting London
January saw Hemyock WI celebrating their birthday with a pie night at the Half Moon, Clayhidon a very enjoyable evening.
Many people will, by now, be aware that the Pump's editors Hilary and Matt Clements have a baby daughter, Verity. The birth was not without its complications and Verity arrived 9 weeks early weighing in at 2lbs 10oz on Valentines Day. She is progressing well and we send the family love and the readerships’ warmest congratulations.
A while ago I offered 4 x 1 hour French lessons at an Auction of Promises in support of Hemyock Preschool. The person who bought them was unable to take them up and expressed her desire that someone else should benefit at no personal cost. GCSE is coming. If interested, please contact Val White 681020.
There will be a number of people who will remember that we are friends with a family in Romania and may recall that the family's eldest son, Vladimir, holidayed with us for a month a number of years ago. Vladimir is reading architecture at a university in Bucharest. He recently entered and won first prize in a national competition. His prize is a trip to Milan. Unsettled, with further rain and showers into next week.
Turning drier this evening as a rain band clears eastwards, with clear skies developing in the west. Under clear skies ice and fog patches may form. Low cloud creating misty and murky conditions further east but also holding temperatures up. Minimum temperature -2 °C.
Cloud and hill fog in the east gradually lifting with a limited number of bright spells emerging. Rain arriving in the southwest during the afternoon accompanied by strengthening winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.
Low pressure remains in charge for the first week of February. Further spells of rain and showers likely, which could lead to some isolated flooding in places. Breezy at times.
