Archived Stories For their July evening outing the Burrowbridge Gardening Club met at Newtown Farm, Hemyock, the home of the Ward family. After travelling through heavy rain to get there, we were amazed to find that at Hemyock it was a dry and pleasant evening.

Archived Stories Hemyock Kids learn about saving the environment at Church Holiday Club More than 80 children learnt how to care for the planet at Hemyock’s annual holiday club last week.  Using Scripture Union’s Wastewatchers holiday club material the children learned how to look after their world through games, craft, music, drama and bible stories.

The development of a Healthy Living Centre for Hemyock came a little closer yesterday when the Mid Devon District Council planning committee agreed a Change of Use for the garages of the former St Ivel factory from light industrial to social care premises.   The Healthy Living Centre is a new and innovative way of helping the community take better care of itself.   The Centre will strive to maintain the health and wellbeing of the frail, vulnerable and disabled in the scattered and often isolated rural community enabling them to stay at home.

At Wednesdays Mid Devon District Council planning committee meeting the Churchill’s Farm housing development was given the green light.

Hemyock Parish Council was represented by its Chairman Heather Stallard who was there to put forward the views of local people who had deep concerns about the lack of sufficient infrastructure.  In particular, recently reported sewage leaks on Longmead because of inadequate pipe-work, a lack of teaching accommodation at the local school, the need for affordable housing specifically for local people and ongoing traffic problems.

Archived Stories 9th June - what a superb afternoon for the Annual Boules Event! About 40 people joined the competition, with many others just going along to spectate and enjoy the delightful gardens at "Oxenpark". The holders of the trophy were Ann & Philip Monks, but this year they were knocked out by our host, Tony Butler and his brother David. We are very grateful to Tony & Edith for their hospitality and to those of you who didn't attend, you missed a wonderful afternoon!
