A unique history event took place in Hemyock on 13th and 14th November at the Primary School with archaeologists from Exeter displaying a large amount of the medieval pottery recently found at the Churchills Farm building site for Hemyock people to handle and discuss with the archaeologists.
Over 200 people filled the parish church of St Mary's, Hemyock for the annual Remembrance Sunday service raising over £550 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The B3391 road between Hemyock and Culmstock will be closed from 9th November to 27th November. Attached are the official notice and SWH's letter to residents. Fore Street in Culmstock, the affected road, is the bit just outside the church. Sounds like Withy Lane is going to be busy for a bit! There are SWH contact details on the letter to residents.
Hemyock Singers take to the stage once again on FRIDAY 13th November when they will be giving a concert version of Trial By Jury and other Gilbert and Sullivan choruses. The concert takes place at the Parish Hall at 7.30pm and soloists include Glyn Jones, Jenny Doble and Tony Grosse. Tickets at £7 which includes a cheese and pate supper are available from Hemyock Post Office.
Liz Carman and the BHAAM (the people who brought you 'Border Art' along the ridge road a couple of weeks ago) organized a pumpkin carving workshop for children (and a few adults!) on the Old Tennis Courts in Hemyock on Saturday 31 October 2009.
A new forestry apprenticeship scheme is set to start in the Blackdown Hills. The programme is being run by The Forestry Commission, in partnership with The Silvanus Trust, Bicton College, and leading private employers from the forestry sector.
Hemyock received accolades and awards (cup, plaque and certificate) as winner of the prestigious title of Calor Devon Village of the Year for 2009 at the Community Council of Devon (CCD) Conference at Teign Valley Village Hall in Christow on Thursday 21 October
This registered charity was set up by a local parishioner in 1986 for the benefit of elderly and sick residents in Hemyock and districts. It can make grants for medical treatment and care and assist in relatives, friends visiting and caring for people at home or in hospital. Grants for research, surgeries, home and institutions caring for eligible persons can also be made.
Once again this year due to several helpers retiring I am appealing for volunteers who can spare a few hours to help with the Poppy Appeal street collection. The collection will be from 31st October - 14th November. If you can please contact David Bawler on 01823 680352.

A wet and windy day as a band of prolonged rain spreads eastwards, bringing heavy and disruptive downpours, with coastal gales likely and localised flooding possible. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Remaining unsettled on Thursday with further heavy and disruptive rainfall. Friday brings bright and drier conditions, with occasional showers, before another rain band moves in on Saturday. Often breezy.
