“People don’t realise that Jesus spent a number of years in business before making himself publicly known in ministry” said Bishop Bob Evens when he spoke at a Hemyock Men breakfast recently. “As a carpenter, Jesus understood what it was to have bad suppliers, late payers and miserable customers” he said. |
Hemyock has fought off competition from around the county to be declared Devon Calor ‘Village of the Year’ award for 2009 and will now progress to the regional finals which will take place on 6th October.
In making their decision, the judges highlighted the vibrant life of the village and the many associations and activities which were on offer to all ages. Of particular interest to the judges were the sports facilities and clubs, which had a genuine focus on providing for both young and old. The report stated that “there is definitely something for everyone and more”
There is a keen interested in providing Allotments in Hemyock as evidenced by the recent village Survey. What we lack is land close to the village which can be used for Allotments. The Parish Council is seeking to lease land for this purpose on a long term basis - one to one and a half acres within a two mile radius of hemyock. If you have suitable land available, please contact the Parish Clerk, Anne Kingston on 680918.
Turning wet and windy with some hill snow possible.
The morning will be mostly dry and after a frosty start for some, there will be some sunshine. However, cloud will gradually increase from the southwest, with wet and windy weather developing across Devon and Cornwall later. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
The evening will start dry, albeit cloudy in the east, perhaps with an initial patchy frosty. Wet and rather windy weather further west will gradually extend to all areas overnight. Minimum temperature 1 °C.
Wednesday will see outbreaks of rain turning heavy and persistent at times. Snow is possible on the Moors, especially later, and there will be a strong to gale force wind. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Overnight rain and snow will clear to leave a sunnier but chilly day on Thursday, with lighter winds. Milder on Friday and Saturday, though some rain, and becoming windy again.
